Set of Six Original Hans Brattrud Dining Chairs
Designing a chair may seem a humble task, but creating one that is technologically innovative, stands out from the pack and lasts a lifetime, is the work of a genius. Norwegian designer Hans Brattrud achieved just that. Half a century after it was first introduced, his 'Scandia' chair is as popular as ever and a design classic.
Hans Brattrud designed the Scandia stackable chair in 1957 as a student project at the Oslo National College of Art & Design. The chair was revolutionary both in shape and expression; the chromed plated steel frames and the bent teak slats give these chairs an air of simplicity and modernity. By using horizontal ribs, a two dimensional laminated shape was strung up and made three-dimensional. This was an ingenious construction that also made a unique and timeless design.
This set of six highly desirable and rare teak Scandia dining chairs are one of the great and most accomplished pieces of the era. The chairs are in good vintage condition, are structurally sound and have the 'O.D. Møbler A-S' labels. We've carefully cleaned and left them in their original state.
